Note: They married in Northampton because of Herbert's job as a professional football player, after also living at Tunbridge Wells.

They lived in a house in the yard of where the old post office is at the top of the High St, near the A5. This was next to a timber yard, where the children recall they use to watch the coffins being made. They also recall that there was not running water or inside toilets, they also have the family there for christmas often 12-15 people, including the members of the woodward family.
